Fwee 365 - A year in review

When I started Fwee 365 I didn’t think it would end up being this difficult maintaining taking a picture each day. But I found it to be fun sometimes while other times it was hard to figure out something to take a picture of. Some people took pictures of themselves but I wanted the camera to be my eyes. I did not want to have a photo of me at all during the project to show the world how I see things and the things that have happened to me that day whether it be a holiday get together or just hanging out watching television and eating.  I ended up using three different types of cameras, my Canon 50D, My Verizon Voyager phone and my Canon Powershot S2 IS.  Because of my camera being stolen in September I am missing three photos but pictures were STILL taken on those days. This will be a round of all the things that have happened and that I have learned this year.

I started off the year with buying studio lights to help me with my photography business. I also applied on a job on myspace to a place called M3Mobile to do event photography. I had never done event photography before so this would be a new step for me. I always want to jump into a different photography career and see where that takes me and this was the perfect opportunity. I also spent the year collecting old junk and old cameras for use of my studio photography. All around the world however the USA celebrated the Inauguration of the 43rd president Barak Obama.

With a new job and new studio lights I began to advertise for clients. I got my first one with a man named Akira thanks to my friend Danny. The shoot went well and I felt happy I got paid for my first shoot.  This led me to think of different ideas for shoots. When I did a shoot with a man named Joey he helped me realize I was over editing and those led me calm down and fully appreciate the raw photography and find my own special niche in the photography world. But this led me to getting some of the wrong clients that would not pay me when I completed a job.  I also met someone new in my life that helped me appreciate New York City more and led me see all the underground wonders it had.

This past year also let me reconnect with my relatives from my father’s side of the family. I felt immediate bonds with them and shot my first wedding. My brother also has a change of his own life by having a Mohawk. I also used the money I made from the wedding and bought a 1TB hard drive to back up all my work. This led me to believe if anything ever happened to my laptop my work would be safe. It should have been my camera that ought to have been worried about.

Unlike previous years I ended up attending more parties as result from events I shot or invites from friends. These parties allowed me to reconnect with childhood friends. It helped me see where I thought I should have been when I was younger and at my very young age in elementary school I had an interest in photography. This confirmed that I was on the right path on my life doing the thing I loved the most.

Things then started going downhill. Bills weren’t paid which caused us to have no television, no phone and no internet. Without a phone or internet it was hard getting work out there but I continued to ask friends to help out my portfolio and shoot with me. My mother though became Vice president of Sterns Park, the place where we lived. My brother however was devastated with the lost of his idol Michael Jackson.

Things weren’t bad for long because my cousins from Florida came to visit and with them bought a fresh air of joy. With them visiting I got to do things I normally didn’t do when I visited the city. I got to see a Broadway play, go to a museum, and travel around the city just for fun. With them here it made me look back into my childhood and I did some real cleaning and threw away a lot of junk while preserving the items that hold so many memories to me. I also then looked forward to the future with all the jobs I had lining up and created a vision board because my brother had gotten me into the secret. Twitter was becoming popular at the time so I joined that as well to help put myself out there more.

I had so much optimism that I did a special month shoot with discounted prices. I got tons more clientele and more recognition. I became friends with one of the models that I shot and he helped teach me about the modeling and fashion world which I now want to be a part of. I also at them time got “laid off” from M3Mobile but I still tried to keep positive. A “friend” said he could get me a job I just had to pay insurance fees and would bring me to meet his friend to get me a great photography job. I agreed to everything which became the biggest mistake in my life. I was scammed and the second I got out of the car this guy drove off with all my camera equipment in his car. I tracked him down however but he had already stolen my equipment. From then on it became a huge hassle to get my equipment back.

With my camera gone and with me being broke I fell into a huge depression and I started to drink. My family did not make things easy and it led me to drink more to drown out their voices. I felt I was going down a destructive path but I continued to try and be positive. So I bought a book. Not just any book but I got Kathy Griffin’s recent book. The first couple pages made me laugh and despite my money troubles I still bought it and It helped me get out of my depression a little bit.

At this point instead of using my camera on my phone I started using my old Canon powershot which I used to use all the time in high school. I continued to try and be positive about my life despite my Camera which was my only source of income to be missing. I tried applying to different places but at the time no one was hiring. I then set a goal for my birthday and made sure I had a blast with my friends. I was single though in a large group of friends that were couples but I really did not care at that point. I just wanted to have fun. More cousins visited and like in the summer brought a new fresh air of joy. I also did something I always wanted to do with friends is just go to a television party. My friend Scott supplied that with his weekly Glee parties which I sadly only went once.

With the year almost done I got a surprise back. My Camera was returned to me and I was ecstatic. I quickly planned shoots to do for the end of the year and applied and got a job doing events for another company. I also got my own cell phone contract and got my own website domain. At this point in my life I felt partly alone. I was always the third wheel or fifth wheel when going out with friends. I never really had a relationship before and I felt I was ready to start something with someone. Or at least find someone to help me get on that journey.

Last year started with a party and it ended with a party a big blast. I felt that small get together on Jan 1st 2009 was how I felt at the beginning of the year which was small, a bit childish, and lost. The Large party on Dec 31st 2009 is where I believe I am now which is older, fun, outgoing, and more assertive. I will make 2010 the best year of my life. I’ve gotten drunk, got my camera stolen, lived with no heat, hot water, Television, internet, or phone. But I still trekked on. I did new things in 2009 I never did before, I opened up more and I am ready to take on any challenge the New Year will bring.  Allons-y 2010!
